Youth Debate

Three of our Year 8 students, Isla Gladman, Terri-Jo Munday and Nina Barnert-Kalisz represented the school at the regional final of Youth Debate at the begining of July. This is a competition organised by the Rotary Club. The trio were highly commended by judges for their engaging performance and team dynamic.

The judges said Isla was ‘very strong’ and used pacing effectively to accentuate her points. They praised Terri-Jo for being ‘confident and grounded’ and delivering her speech at a ‘really engaging pace’. They also commented that Nina’s opening ‘really tugged the heart strings’ and that her speech was ‘well thought out and very punchy’.

They were the youngest in the final and performed impressively well against older teams from other schools. Many thanks to Mrs Jane Hughes, High Achieving Coordinator, for her work preparing them for the competition.
