Year 7 & 8 vs Oriel rugby match

On Tuesday 24th February, a brave Oriel side turned up with only 12 players at Imberhorne and to their credit fulfilled the fixture rather than cancel. The Yr 7 team played them first for 15 minutes and battled really well against the taller and older players to overpower them by 12-7. This increased their confidence and a good performance was made by all. Both tries came from the explosive Kieran Johnstone. The next two 15-minute thirds were played by the Yr 8 team with a few Yr 9’s who are fringe players going on the rugby tour. To make it 15 a side, three of our players volunteered to play for Oriel.Straight from our kick off – Ryan Bateman (one of our players) collected the ball and ran through four tacklers (breaking one player’s nose by accident) to score the first try for Oriel!Imberhorne, motivated by the try, proceeded to dominate the play in the forward line. The forwards managed to keep position of the ball in the tackle, allowing it to be passed out to the backs who sliced through Oriel’s defence ‘like butter’.The final score was 35-7.There were many good performances to single out from the team. The front row dominated play allowing the Scrum half and Fly half to link up well and pass the ball out wide. This allowed the Centers to run in the tries for glory! We look forward to the return match next month.Well done everyone.Mr D Celani
