Every year a Blacklands Farm day trip is organised for Year 12. It is used as a team building exercise to stimulate teamwork, develop leadership skills and encourage self confidence. It is a chance for the year to reunite before the start of school.We met on the field of Blacklands Farm at 9.00am to form groups for the day’s activities. The groups were organised alphabetically to encourage new social circles. Each group was given an egg - some named theirs and many were broken (accidently and purposely) even though the aim was to keep them intact. For a lot of the year it was a chance to get muddy and for others a chance to avoid the mud, nevertheless a chance for friends to challenge themselves mentally and physically in the fresh air. Some of the activities included abseiling, climbing and solving problems. A particular favourite with the students was to design a method of stopping the egg from cracking when dropped from the top of the abseiling tower, using only paper and string in limited amounts. For each individual task there were points to gain. At the end of the day the team with the most points won their own special Imberhorne mug. The day revealed a range of skills within the year group and enabled everyone to have individual and group input. Overall I think this was a great start to the Sixth Form.
