ROTARY SCHOOLS PUBLIC SPEAKING COMPETITION

The Rotary Club of East Grinstead welcomed nine teams, from five schools, who came together at Chequer Mead on Wednesday evening January 21st, to demonstrate their skills in speaking to an audience. Over a hundred people listened and were enlightened by the speakers, who gave their ideas on a subject of their own choice. The adjudicators, chaired by our town clerk, Chris Rolley, retired during the interval to deliberate. A varied, and much appreciated, musical interlude was presented by pupils from Notre Dame school, Lingfield. The Rotary Club welcomed our Town Mayor, Ginny Waddingham, who presented the Challenge Bowl to Imberhorne School team B, who were considered by the adjudicators to have given the best overall presentation. The other schools who took part in the competition were Dorothy Stringer School Team B in second place, Worth Abbey school Team B in third place, Notre Dame school and Sackville School.Rotary President, Brian Jeffries, thanked all who were present, especially the Mayor, the adjudicators, the staff at Chequer Mead, and also the Caravan Club of East Grinstead for their generous sponsorship. The first photograph shows Imberhorne School Team B, with the Mayor and the Challenge Bowl.
