Potential UK Young Scientist of the Year

We've had fabulous news this week about Year 13 student Mattyn Pirnazari. Following Mattyn’s success receiving a Gold Crest award from his summer Science project, he has now been selected as a finalist for ‘The Big Bang UK Young Scientists & Engineers Competition’ to be held over a few days 14th - 16th March at the NEC Birmingham.

His project on  ‘Forensic Facial Reconstruction of a Neolithic Skull using Open Source Software’ impressed the expert judges. They commented “I think the student has shown great determination, enthusiasm and initiative in  undertaking this project so  far.  Many aspects are self -taught and the student has initiated a research project that may go on beyond its initial  aim. It has value to them personally but also locally to  Brighton and it is encouraging that the museum has shown an interest more widely,  the student also recognises the value to the heritage industry and to the wider community in terms of facial recognition.  The student has already considered next steps which is excellent”

Good luck Mattyn, our potential UK Young Scientist of the Year!
