Crowned at the Castle

Congratulations to 'Knitter Natters' Ruby and Niamh Doyle in Year 8 & 9 who travelled to the 'Business Tycoon in Schools' competition finals at Windsor Castle on Wednesday 5th September and scooped the winning Key Stage 3 category award out of thousands of other businesses and students who entered.

Business plans were submitted to the Peter Jones Foundation in October last year to apply for funding. Not only were the Doyle Duo successful in raising £750 to kick start their innovative business, 'Knitter Knatters' but they wasted no time sourcing raw materials, building a website and were trading by the Spring term. The successful entrepreneurs generated £900 in revenue in just eight weeks! They paid back their loan and made a donation to the charity as per the terms of the competition.

They thought that was that, but what they didn’t know was they had been shortlisted in the KS3 competition category final which was planned to take place at Buckingham Palace earlier this year. Postponed due to heavy snow until this week, they finally picked up the award for best Business in KS3 which was presented to them at Windsor Castle by HRH the Duke of York and Peter Jones from Dragons Den.

What a journey and what a collection of work related skills the students have picked up on the way. Thank you to all those in the school community and beyond who have supported them through the year. It’s not too late to buy the gift experience for this Christmas. If you know of someone who would like some companionship for six hours over six weeks and who in return can teach a young person how to knit, please follow the link to their website.

Mr Thompson, Business Tycoon in Schools Coordinator and Business Teacher at Imberhorne commented, "I'm so proud of the students, this is a superb outcome and well deserved"

Mr Langstone, Ruby's Head of Year also said, "this is an amazing achievement and down to hard work and enthusiasm. I am so pleased that they won the key stage award – it is extremely well deserved"
